Altaussee & Hallstatt
The "mountain of treasures", the Altaussee salt mine, presents itself to visitors with tunnels of pure rock salt that lead to the Barbara Chapel and via two miners' slides to the underground salt lake, where a fascinating multimedia show takes place. During the Second World War, the most valuable works of art in Europe were stored here and saved from destruction by the Altaussee miners. The Altaussee Salt Worlds can also be visited in the winter months.
